Recovery scams: how victims get hit a second time — and how to avoid it

FRAUD AWARENESS

If you have already lost crypto, you are now a target for a second scam: the fake recovery agency. These operations buy or scrape victim lists and promise to get everything back for an upfront fee. We see it constantly, so we want you to recognise it.

The upfront-fee tell

A legitimate recovery process starts with a free assessment. Anyone who demands a large payment in crypto before doing any work, especially with urgency, should be treated as a second fraud.

The guarantee tell

No honest firm guarantees recovery. Crypto transactions are permanent; outcomes depend on where the money went. A promise of one hundred percent is a sales tactic, not a plan.

The impersonation tell

Some recovery scams pose as law enforcement, a government fund, or even the original platform reaching out to make things right. Verify any such contact independently before responding.

What real help looks like

An honest firm explains the realistic odds, documents its methods, and never asks you to pay to release your own money. If something feels like pressure, step back.

Before you pay anyone for recovery

  • Confirm the first review is free
  • Refuse any upfront crypto fee
  • Reject anyone guaranteeing results
  • Independently verify unsolicited contact
